CATALYTIC EXHAUST PRODUCTS LIMITED (CEP) MANUFACTURES A WIDE VARIETY OF DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS FOR DIESEL ENGINE APPLICATIONS.

THE FOLLOWING DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER TECHNOLOGIES ARE CURRENTLY OFFERED:

1) SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

- BEST SUITED FOR 1996 AND NEWER MEDIUM TO HEAVY DUTY ENGINE APPLICATIONS WHERE AVERAGE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES EXCEED 320+ DEGREES CELSIUS FOR 20%+ OF ENGINE OPERATING TIME. THE SXS-CX CATALYST COATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS PROVIDE A RELATIVELY SLOW REGENERATION OVER UNIT TIME. INITIAL COSTS OF CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS ARE RELATIVELY HIGH IN COMPARISON TO OTHER TECHNOLOGIES. HOWEVER CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS ARE PASSIVE IN OPERATION AND REQUIRE MINIMAL MAINTENANCE.

2) SXS-C CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

- BEST SUITED FOR 1996 AND NEWER, MEDIUM TO HEAVY DUTY ENGINE APPLICATIONS WHERE AVERAGE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES EXCEED 380+ DEGREES CELSIUS FOR 20%+ OF ENGINE OPERATING TIME. THE CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS PROVIDE A RELATIVELY SLOW REGENERATION OVER UNIT TIME. INITIAL COSTS OF SXS-C CATALYST COATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS ARE LOWER IN COMPARISON TO THE SXS-CX PARTICULATE FILTER TECHNOLOGIES. HOWEVER SXS-C CONFIGURATION DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS ARE PASSIVE IN OPERATION AND REQUIRE MINIMAL MAINTENANCE.

3) SXS-B BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER / FUEL ADDITIVES

- BEST SUITED FOR OLDER PRE-1996 AND NEWER, MEDIUM/HEAVY DUTY APPLICATIONS WHERE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE RANGE OF 310+ DEGREES
CELSIUS FOR 20%+ OF ENGINE OPERATING TIME. THE BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WITH FUEL ADDITIVES PROVIDES A RELATIVELY FAST, LOW STRESS REGENERATION OVER UNIT TIME. INITAL COSTS OF THE BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS WITH FUEL ADDITIVES ARE MODERATE IN COMPARISON TO CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS. BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS WITH FUEL ADDITIVES WILL REQUIRE PERIODIC MAINTENANCE OF FUEL ADDITIVE METERING SYSTEMS.

4) SXS-E ELECTRICALLY REGENERATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

- BEST SUITED FOR LIGHT/MEDIUM DUTY APPLICATIONS WHERE CONTINUOUS ENGINE OPERATION DOES NOT EXCEED 8 TO 12 HOURS. SXS-E ELECTRICALLY REGENERATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS REQUIRE A 120/240 VOLT SINGLE PHASE POWER SUPPLY. PRODUCT AVAILABILITY SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER/2002.

1) SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS

THE SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS A CERAMIC WALL FLOW FILTER WHICH TRAPS PARTICULATE MATTER (PM) IN THE PORES OF THE CERAMIC FILTER WALL. IN TYPICAL USE THE SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL TRAP 85% - 95% OF PARTICULATE MATTER. THE COLLECTED PM IS OXIDIZED FROM CARBON TO GASEOUS CO AND CO2 BY THE HIGHLY EFFICIENT CATALYST COATING WHEN EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES EXCEED 320 TO 350+ DEGREES CELSIUS. A SXS-CX CATALYTICALLY COATED PARTICULATE TRAP WILL REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 320 TO 350 + DEGREES CENTIGRADE AT THE INLET CONE OF THE PARTICULATE FILTER FOR APPROXIMATELY 20%+ OF OPERATING TIME. THIS IS POSSIBLE WITH A DIESEL ENGINE ASSUMING THAT THE ENGINE IS MODERATELY TO HEAVILY LOADED. IF THE MINIMUM EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES ARE NOT ATTAINABLE THE CATALYTICALLY COATED PARTICULATE FILTER WILL NOT -"AUTOREGENERATE" AND THE EXHAUST GAS BACKPRESSURE RESTRICTION WILL START TO INCREASE. AUTOREGENERATION IS THE ACT OF COLLECTING AND OXIDIZING ACCUMULATED DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER AT A CONTROLLED AND CONSTANT RATE. IF THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL NOT REGENERATE EVENTUALLY THE PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PLUG WITH PARTICULATE MATTER AND THE PARTICULATE FILTER MAY SUFFER PERMANENT DAMAGE IN A SHORT TIME.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CANNOT REDUCE NOX BY ADDING THE PARTICULATE FILTER. IN ORDER TO REDUCE NOX THE EQUIPMENT OWNER WILL HAVE TO MODIFY THE ENGINE BY RETARDING THE INJECTION TIMING OF THE ENGINE, DERATING THE ENGINE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM OR INCORPORATING A SYSTEM OF "EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION". THESE MODIFICATIONS WILL USUALLY INCREASE CO, HC AND PM HOWEVER THE PARTICULATE FILTER WILL CONTROL THESE INCREASED POLLUTANT EMISSIONS.

THE SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS PRODUCE A "CLEAN" TRAP BACKPRESSURE RESTRICTION OF ABOUT 20-24" H20. THE EXHAUST GAS RESTRICTION IMPOSED BY THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS MAY IMPEDE THE USE OF EXHAUST NOISE SILENCERS. HOWEVER A DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PRODUCE A SOUND INSERTION LOSS OF 10 TO 12+ DB{A) AT RATED ENGINE LOAD.

IF THE USE OF THE SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS NOT FEASIBLE THEN WE WOULD RECOMMEND THAT OUR OTHER DIESEL PARTICULATE CONTROL EQUIPMENT BE CONSIDERED FOR CONTROL OF PM. ALTERNATELY GIVEN THE POTENTIAL DIFFICULTIES AND EXPENSE ASSOCIATED WITH DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER USING A CATALYTIC PURIFIER (OXIDATION CATALYST) AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE PARTICULATE FILTER FOR CERTAIN ENGINE APPLICATIONS.

IN TYPICAL USE THE SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING POLLUTANT REDUCTIONS:

THE SXS-C CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS A CERAMIC WALL FLOW FILTER WHICH TRAPS PARTICULATE MATTER (PM) IN THE PORES OF THE CERAMIC FILTER WALL. IN TYPICAL USE THE SXS-C CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL TRAP 85% - 95% OF PARTICULATE MATTER. THE COLLECTED PM IS OXIDIZED FROM CARBON TO GASEOUS CO AND CO2 BY THE CATALYST COATING WHEN EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES EXCEED 370 TO 400+ DEGREES CELSIUS. THE SXS-C CATALYTICALLY COATED PARTICULATE TRAP WILL REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 370 TO 400+ DEGREES CENTIGRADE AT THE INLET CONE OF THE PARTICULATE FILTER FOR APPROXIMATELY 20%+ OF OPERATING TIME. THIS IS POSSIBLE WITH A DIESEL ENGINE ASSUMING THAT THE ENGINE IS MODERATELY TO HEAVILY LOADED. IF THE MINIMUM EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES ARE NOT ATTAINABLE THE CATALYTICALLY COATED PARTICULATE FILTER WILL NOT "AUTOREGENERATE" AND THE EXHAUST GAS BACKPRESSURE RESTRICTION WILL START TO INCREASE. AUTOREGENERATION IS THE ACT OF COLLECTING AND OXIDIZING ACCUMULATED DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER AT A CONTROLLED AND CONSTANT RATE. IF THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL NOT REGENERATE EVENTUALLY THE PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PLUG WITH PARTICULATE MATTER AND THE PARTICULATE FILTER MAY SUFFER PERMANENT DAMAGE IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.

IN TYPICAL USE THE SXS-C CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING POLLUTANT REDUCTIONS:

3) SXS-B BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER / FUEL ADDITIVES

THE SXS-B BARE WALL PLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS A CERAMIC WALL FLOW FILTER WHICH TRAPS SMOKE OR PARTICULATE MATTER (PM) IN THE PORES OF THE CERAMIC FILTER WALL. IN TYPICAL USE THE BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL TRAP 85% - 95% OF PARTICULATE MATTER. THE SXS-B WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER CAN BE SUPPLIED IN AN UNCOATED BARE WALL FORMAT. THE UNCOATED (NO CATALYST COATING) FILTER WILL ONLY REDUCE PARTICULATES WHEREAS THE COATED (CATALYST COATING) FILTER WILL REDUCE PARTICULATES AND HARMFUL GASES SUCH AS CO, HC AND HCHO. A SXS-B BARE WALL DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL COLLECT DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER (PM) WITH A COLLECTION EFFICIENCY OF 85% TO 95%. THE BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REQUIRES A MINIMUM EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 550 TO 600+ DEGREES CENTIGRADE (FOR 20%+ OF ENGINE OPERATING TIME) IN ORDER FOR THE PARTICULATE FILTER TO COLLECT AND BURN OFF (AUTO-REGENERATE) CORRECTLY. PARTICULATE MATTER WILL COLLECT IN THE PARTICULATE FILTER IF THE REQUIRED MINIMUM EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES ARE NOT ACHIEVED FOR A SPECIFIC PERCENTAGE OF ENGINE OPERATING TIME. IF THE MINIMUM TEMPERATURES ARE NOT ACHIEVED THE FILTER WILL EVENTUALLY COLLECT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PARTICULATE MATTER. THIS EXCESSIVE PARTICULATE MATTER WILL CAUSE AN UNCONTROLLED REGENERATION AND SEVERE IRREVERSABLE DAMAGE TO THE INTERNAL FILTER STRUCTURE MAY OCCUR.

DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES ARE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST IN AUTO-REGENERATION OF PARTICULATE FILTERS WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY ENGINE DUTY CYCLES. THE DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES WILL ALLOW THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER TO AUTO-REGENERATE AT EXHAUST TEMPERATURES IN THE RANGE OF 320 TO 350+ DEGREES CENTIGRADE. THE DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES ARE MIXED INTO THE DIESEL FUEL MANUALLY BY THE OPERATOR OR FUEL SUPPLIER OR BY THE USE OF AN ON-BOARD AUTOMATIC DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES DOSING PUMP SYSTEM (ADFAD). THE AUTOMATIC DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES DOSING PUMP SYSTEM WILL ACCURATELY DELIVER THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF ADDITIVE TO THE DIESEL FUEL TANK WHEN THE TANK IS REFILLED WITH DIESEL FUEL. IN TYPICAL APPLICATIONS THE DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES ARE MIXED TO DIESEL FUEL AT A RATIO OF 1 PART FUEL ADDITIVE TO APPROXIMATELY 1500 PARTS DIESEL FUEL. DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES WILL ADD A COST OF APPROXIMATELY 12 TO 15 CENTS PER U.S. GALLON. THE DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVES ARE CERTIFIED BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) FOR USE WITH DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS.

IN TYPICAL USE THE SXS-B BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER AND THE BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WITH FUEL ADDITIVES WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING POLLUTANT REDUCTIONS:

4) SXS-E ELECTRICALLY REGENERATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

THE SXS-E ELECTRICALLY REGENERATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS A WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WHICH USES ELECTRICAL POWER TO INITIATE REGENERATION OF ACCUMULATED DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER. THE SXS-E ELECTRICALLY REGENERATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR LIGHT TO MODERATE ENGINE DUTY CYCLES. THE PARTICULATE FILTER WILL COLLECT DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER (PM) WITH A COLLECTION EFFICIENCY OF 85% TO 95%. SPECIFIC EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE RANGES ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR PROPER DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER OPERATION. AN OPTIONAL CATALYTIC PURIFIER IS AVAILABLE IF THE CUSTOMER WISHES TO REDUCE OTHER HARMFUL POLLUTANTS SUCH AS CARBON MONOXIDE (CO), HYDROCARBONS (HC) DIESEL ODOUR (HCHO) IN ADDITION TO DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER (PM).

AFTER APPROXIMATELY 8 TO 12 HOURS OF ENGINE OPERATION AN EXHAUST BACKPRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WILL INDICATE TO THE OPERATOR THAT THE FILTER SHOULD BE REGENERATED. ALTERNATELY THE OPERATOR COULD REGENERATE THE FILTER AT THE END OF EVERY WORK SHIFT. THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THE PARTICULATE FILTER IS PLUGGED INTO A 240 VOLT SINGLE PHASE AC POWER SUPPLY. AN ELECTRICAL HEATER ELEMENT LOCATED IN THE BASE OF THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PRODUCE A RELATIVELY CONSTANT AMOUNT OF HEAT WITH A TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 550 TO 650 DEGREES CENTIGRADE. A LOW VOLUME OF AIRFLOW IS SUPPLIED BY AN ELECTRICAL FAN WHICH IS ALSO LOCATED IN THE BASE OF THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER. THE SUPPLY OF ELECTRICAL POWER AND AIRFLOW IS CAREFULLY CONTROLLED BY AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AND TEMPERATURE SENSOR. THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE MAINTAINS THE LEVEL OF PARTICULATE MATTER REGENERATION AT A SAFE AND CONSTANT RATE. THE ENTIRE REGENERATION PROCESS REQUIRES APPROXIMATELY 30 TO 45 MINUTES FROM THE POINT OF PLUGGING IN THE 240 VOLT SINGLE PHASE AC POWER SUPPLY. THE ACCUMULATED DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER IS OXIDIZED AND THE ENGINE EXHAUST BACKPRESSURE RESTRICTION WILL RETURN TO NORMAL RESTRICTION LEVELS. UPON COMPLETION OF THE REGENERATION PROCESS THE PARTICULATE FILTER CAN BE RETURNED TO SERVICE.

IN TYPICAL USE THE SXS-E ELECTRICALLY REGENERATED DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING POLLUTANT REDUCTIONS:
