Please note: We cannot reduce NOx by adding a particulate filter. In order to reduce NOx the equipment owner will have to modify the engine by retarding the injection timing of the engine, de-rating the engine fuel injection system or incorporating an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. These modifications will usually increase CO, HC and PM however the particulate filter will control the increased pollutant emissions.

1) SXS-CX CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

The SXS-CX catalyst coated wall flow diesel particulate filter is a ceramic wall flow filter which traps particulate matter (PM) in the pores of the ceramic filter wall. Typically, the SXS-CX catalyst coated wall flow diesel particulate filter will trap 85%-95% of particulate matter. The highly efficient catalyst coating oxidizes the collected PM to gaseous CO and CO2 when exhaust gas temperatures exceed 320 to 350+ degrees Celsius. A SXS-CX catalytically coated particulate trap will require a minimum of 320+ degrees centigrade at the inlet cone of the particulate filter for approximately 20% of operating time. This is possible with a diesel engine that is running at a moderate to heavy load. If the minimum exhaust gas temperatures are not attainable the catalytically coated particulate filter will not “auto regenerate” and the exhaust gas backpressure restriction will start to increase. Auto regeneration is the act of collecting and oxidizing accumulated diesel particulate matter at a controlled and constant rate. If the diesel particulate filter will not regenerate, eventually the particulate filter will plug with particulate matter and the particulate filter may suffer permanent damage in a short time.

2) SXS-C CATALYST COATED WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

Best suited for model year 1996 and later engines that are used for medium to heavy duty engine applications where average exhaust gas temperatures exceed 380+ degrees Celsius for 20%+ of engine operating time. The catalyst coated wall flow diesel particulate filters provide a relatively slow regeneration over unit time. Initial costs of SXS-C catalyst coated diesel particulate filters are lower in comparison to the SXS-CX particulate filter technologies however SXS-C configuration diesel particulate filters are passive in operation and require minimal maintenance.

3) SXS-SC DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

The SXS-SC diesel particulate filter is a platinum coated DPF which is best suited for 1996 and newer medium to heavy duty engine/equipment applications. The SXS-SC diesel particulate filter is a passively regenerating diesel particulate filter coated with a specially formulated high load platinum base metal catalytic coating allows for maximum reduction of PM, HC and CO. Production of harmful NO2 is suppressed and NO2 is not produced by the SXS-SC DPF. The SXS-DPF will initiate regeneration when engine exhaust gas temperatures exceed 320 C to 390°C for 20% of engine operating time. We recommend a careful pre-evaluation of engine duty cycle and exhaust temperatures to determine if this DPF filter option is feasible.

4) SXS-B BARE WALL FLOW DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER / FUEL ADDITIVES

The SXS-B bare wall diesel particulate filter will collect diesel particulate matter (PM) with a collective efficiency of 85% to 95%. The bare wall flow diesel particulate filter requires a minimum exhaust gas temperature of approximately 550 to 600+ degrees centigrade (for 20%+ of engine operating time) in order for the particulate filter to collect and burn off (auto-regenerate) correctly. Particulate matter will collect in the particulate filter if the required minimum exhaust gas temperatures are not achieved for a specific percentage of engine operating time. If the minimum temperatures are not achieved the filter will eventually collect an excessive amount of particulate matter. This excessive particulate matter may cause an uncontrolled regeneration and irreversible damage to the internal filter structure.

Diesel fuel additives are available to assist in auto-regeneration of particulate filters with moderate to heavy engine duty cycles. The diesel fuel additives will allow the diesel particulate filter to auto-regenerate at exhaust temperatures in the range of 320 to 350+ degrees centigrade. The diesel fuel additives are mixed into the diesel fuel manually by the operator or fuel supplier or by the se of an on-board automatic diesel fuel additives dosing pump system (ADFAD). The automatic diesel fuel additives dosing pump system will accurately deliver the correct amount of additive to the diesel fuel tank when the tank is refilled with diesel fuel. In typical applications the diesel fuel additives are mixed to diesel fuel at ratio of 1 part fuel additive to approximately 1500 parts diesel fuel. The diesel fuel additives are certified by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use with diesel particulate filters.
